Biography
Andrew Joseph
Andrew Joseph is a Long Island, NY – based composer and musician.
Andrew Joseph is a uniquely skillful performer, composer, and arranger whose work has helped the careers of many musicians and ensembles. A seasoned mandolinist, guitarist and pianist, his instrumental and choral compositions blend musical styles and approaches as he seeks to create new sound worlds with each piece. Born in New York City and growing up immersed in the region’s rich arts culture, Andrew’s musical upbringing was influenced by an eclectic mix of musical genres and artistic forms. His passion for contemporary classical composition and traditional folk instruments has influenced the composer’s trademark sound and approach to chamber music composition.
Surrounded by music as a child, Andrew developed the ability to play popular, classical, jazz, folk, and film music by ear on multiple instruments. This inspired his lifelong passion for improvisation as a way to explore the connections between musical forms and styles. Breaking down the arrangements on recorded music was his earliest and best education in music theory and composition. Early experience singing in choral ensembles brought a deep love for the textures that could be achieved with voices and simple instrumentation. As a touring musician, he performed in notable venues including Radio City Music Hall, The Theater at Madison Square Garden, The Apollo, and MetLife Stadium. Work as a bassist with classical orchestras, jazz ensembles, and rock groups led him to passionately explore the specific qualities of different instruments in different settings. Integrating his broad musical background into his formal studies in classical and jazz traditions further influenced his unique approach to composing and arranging both instrumental and choral music.
Andrew Joseph’s music is available on sheetmusicplus.com and sheetmusicdirect.com.
